Woo Hoo   We got our own section.

Let's see some pics of all those fine tube amps, pre amps, r2r's.......you all have around the house.

I'll kick it off

Pilot SP-210 (I recapped) w/ custom Walnut case and custom outboard power supply running into a pair of Fisher 30A mono blocks that I recapped and replaced the resistors in.

System shot coupla years ago

From the bottom
Power supply for the power amp. This box has a couple of huge frame transformers and eight caps as big as beer cans. Solid state rectification. The amp still runs for a bit if you accidentally turn off the power supply. I don't put my fingers anywhere near this Fu**er as I'm not sure it has a proper bleed fitted for the caps.......ouch

Next up is the power amp. Runs 12AT7 as a driver tube for 2 x 7027A (hot rod 6L6GC different pin config) wired in triode mode for a very sweet 15wpc. Iron is sized for huge headroom. Drives medium to high efficiency speakers beautifully.

Above and top in first picy is preamp with built in phono stage. I run 5751's in the phono but it is still to noisy so I basically don't use it. The line stage has some telefunken smooth plate 12AX7's presently. Driver tubes are Mullard Blackburn EL84's wired in triode mode. This pre will drive anything due to the EL84's output. Great hand built pre but I have not used any of this gear for a while now.

The unit on the right is a valve regulated power supply for the pre amp.

Currently have no valves in my system.......shit. (note to self. What the F*** are you doing)

It looks familiar huh?

It is sounding pretty good hooked up to my definitive tech speakers. I straightened out the back as best I could without un-soldering all of the connections. If the wires from the output transformers to the speaker terminals were longer I probably would have disconnected them and taken the back plate off. I didn't want to risk breaking them too close to the xfrmers.

Lol it looks like I need to straighten up the right hand preamp tube also.

How's it sound? Are those Torroid transformers?

I am no tube affectionado, but it sounds good and tubey, the more I crank it up the better it sounds.

No toroid transformers, just fake metal cans to hide the industrial looking transformers underneath. :D

Did you get a biasing tool? You still have some burn in time on those tubes yet. It will get even warmer sounding. It really doesn't have very many hours on it. I'm glad your enjoying it.

I looked at the chassis when I had it apart and the pots are plastic bodied so any 3mm hex wrench will work. I have only put 10 to 15 hours on it so I am not worried about re-adjusting the bias yet. One of these days I will check it though.

Hey WP, nice looking amp. What tubes does it run and output?
It runs 6N1's in the preamp and EL34B's in the power amp section. The output is rated at 52W RMS per Channel, Freq Repsonse is 20Hz to 60KHz (-2dB). The transformers are actually hand wound but nothing special in appearance so they hide them under some painted cans.

Here are some pics from the dealers website. I bought this amp from Larry as his place was filling up with tapes and gear and he needed more room.

I wonder... I have the Polk SDA's with the imaging cable that goes between 'em. I wonder if I'd have to disconnect that for a typical tube amp, or risk smoking something? The big warning has always been not to use it with amps that do not share a common ground between channels.

I don't know, I didn't look to see if there was a common ground. It had two positive speaker connections, one for 8 ohm and one for 4 ohm. These connections come from the output transformers, however I believe the speaker grounds for left and right are tied together.

Yeah I haven't run it without speakers hooked up yet, lol. My rule of thumb is if it doesn't have a speaker selector switch with an off position, you shouldn't have it turned on without a load.

I was wondering why I am on my fourth set of output tubes.

Of all my tubes this is the one I kept. I'm running EL34 Mullards. It has a remote control and if I remember right 35 WPC. I do like the Mullards. It has no problem pushing any speaker I throw at it. Well here is the pic. I sold its sister a 15 wpc 300B tubes. For a small amount of money. Well here is the pic.
