Any thoughts as to what may cause my source monitor levels to be significantly lower than my recording monitor levels? This is forcing me to set recording levels on the fly and makes it tough to adjust bias settings when I toggle between source and recording. :banghead:

Are there any processors connected in series to your Pioneer CT-F900? There can be a small dB drop from going to source to tape, but not, usually, an increase in dB from source to tape monitoring.

Nothing in line between Tape deck and amp. It is a huge difference, too. Loss of a 4-6 dB going from recording monitor to source monitor. Makes for interesting bias adjustments.....

I would de-couple from the amplifier's tape loop and try directly from a CD source to the tape deck's inputs while monitoring with headphones during a recording. That way, you can isolate the dB difference to the cassette deck.
