a couple weeks or so now after stuffing my main system's Pio CS-G503 4-ways with fiberglass insulation,
i finally got some time to sit down for some serious disc pulling, and a couple hours later, i am blown away.

this is EXACTLY what these cabinets were lacking in, and sitting down for some serious listening really hammered that home.
it's all so warm, extended, clean and tight now. it has presence that now so easily complements the already excellent mids and highs.

these really are inexpensively made, but well designed and generally excellent floorstanders.
don't get me wrong; there are many, many vastly superior 2-channel pairs out there to be had, -and several PIONEER models i deeply wished i owned right this moment-
but these cheap, lowly 4-ways are now possessed of such a pleasing sound character that i no longer feel quite so slided.
they are now without question, total El-Cheapo Ass-Kickers, clearly performing a good deal beyond what their tightly-factored price point would suggest...

That's great to hear (pun intended!).

I think my Mach Two's, for which I've already put in big nasty Pyle woofs and new mids in, will be undergoing the same ... taxidermy!!

Always nice to tame some boomy speaker cabinets. And when you do the work yourself there is added satisfaction. :thumbleft:

I can see why perhaps...

they put 15s in a cabinet meant for 12s without good enough accomodations. The ports alone wouldn't cut it.

I also tended to find either no tweeters or that ultimately they lacked on some speakers in this era, hence Altec tweeters from Models One/Three/Five on one three way I had and mid seventies Onkyos in my current four ways (only the crossovers and 8" mid woofers are stock, the rest late sixties-early seventies). I'm happy that you could 'tame' them with stuffing.
