Started my attempt to restore a Pioneer A-60 I picked up. Let's say it was in sad shape...! I've cleaned up the outside and "fixed" an alps micro switch in the switch assembly. I am more interested in having a phono input than aux so I just swapped them out, since they are NLA. Started a recap and found some issues! Here are some pics.....

I don't know what caused the corrosion on the last pic. I'm getting opens across the resistors, I don't know how to identify the diode.. Looking at the service manual all I can figure out is that it should be a zener. Numbers are practically unreadable on the xray views of the boards.. it didn't photocopy very well at all.
I pulled the heatsink and outputs and cleaned and applied new thermal paste. It has gotten really hot in there in a couple of spot. There are plastic guides for the outputs where the pins go through the board and the left channel ones were in three separate pieces and center piece was warped...

Interesting, but the amp was playing... !

Help.. diode replacement!

Looking at the picture on the far right there is a diode above the spot where the right hand cap sits. I need to replace it and the service manual from hifiengine is illegible in that area. I pulled the diode and the markings as best I can make out is 6-2B. I know from the manual the diagram shows it as a zener. I need to replace it and don't know what to use...!

Thanks!

Perhaps next time you should get a legible service manual from Stereomanuals.com.....

The service manual should have a parts list that correlates with that board, give us the part number from the parts list....

WooHoo! Solved it! If anyone runs into the same issue...lol.

Replacement appears to be ..... the winner is! 512-1N5234B Fairchild 6.2V, 0.5W Zener

But if you have the manual it would be GreaT to have it confirmed!

What Gepetto said!

Got the rest of my parts in today! Went with the zener that Gepetto said to get. Installed and waiting for it to warm up to adjust idle current. IMAG0303.jpg

I'm assuming that you cleaned out the corrosion caused by electrolyte leaking from the big cap. It may not affect the components in the area, but if you can, you should solder the wire-wrapped connections near by - corrosion can cause an open in the circuit at that point, or at least a place for noise. It would not be a bad idea to do them all...

A proper wire wrap is also gas tight, do not arbitrarily solder a wire wrap connection just because it's a wire wrapped connection....

Well, got everything in and set... it is dropping the left channel out intermittently. Darn! Any thoughts. Pretty sure, it's when it is getting hot. Need MarktheFixer....!

I cleaned it up, but didn't solder the wire wraps.. I usually don't mess with them unless there is a good reason. i.e. a break.
