I snagged this post from the Pilot forums. This is the unit from my old console, thought ya'll might like to read it, Jim, the poster is looking for some Fairchild gear...

Just upgraded Pilot 690 Tuner/preamplifier and I have to say, with all
> respect to Pilot collectors and the Pilot sound, I recently did this unit
> once again in search of a higher quality in the music. I replaced all
> the capacitors in this unit and my choice was and is for all the .1MF/400 in the preamp section I used Mundorf Polypro Silver oil .1uf/1000v and also in the output stage of the preamp where .022uf/200v I replaced 2 Mundorf Polypro Silver oil. All the rest of the capacitors in the signal couple stage of preamp/tuner a mix of Audience and Hovland Musicaps.
> Man let me tell you! what a improvement in my phono stage. When they told me that the Mundorf caps are superior to all the polypro caps I just needed to try them. I am getting so much better Music, spacious, detailed, clarity, and some warmth.
> I have to say that the upgrades on my Pilot 690 tuner/preamp was a little pricey but worth the money to me. With that said I hope that this information will benifit someone in the group and with there Pilot gear. You never know if you never try! Now all I need is a Fairchild
> SA-12 tonearm for my Fairchild 412 turntable Circa 1959. If anybody in this group has any leads to this tonearm please let me know.

I'm continually amazed at the stories of traveling ever backward to get an awarding music experience.

He didn't say how many he used. He didn't even go for the cheaper Solens. I would say 400.00 or more. The SIO are not cheap at all. Well none he used are cheap. LOL Cary wanted 500.00 to change 4 caps and put in Cardis. I'm glad I said no. LOL
