Good stuff. I've had a model 1000 in my system since 1975 or so and I use it 80% of the time. I noticed a modification mentioned in Rockwell's page, and it looks promising. When I get motivated I will try it out on one of my parts units and report back.

I'm very curious about any tech item

My impressions on this device :
- autocorrelator is magic : no noise with records and tapes
- with FM is not always magic
- correlation threshold adjusting is not so easy .
- Peakunlimiter effect is more natural compared to DBX
In family we have two PL 4000 and one C 4000 and we are very satisfied.
The boards in PL 4000 and PL 1000 are absolutely the same .
In C4000 there is also the automatic threshold for correlation .
Ciao
Marco

I have been looking for a preamp for quite sometime now Lee
The 1000 is not a preamp on its own, it's an expander and noise reduction unit.
Maybe you're thinking of the 4000, which has the autocorrelator in it too.
If you're looking for one of those, I've got a couple of them, but they're very finicky. Nice when working but they suffer from a motherboard has solder issues. I'd be afraid of shipping one unless you are capable of resoldering the motherboards if it developed trouble.
They do sound nice when working though! What city are you in?

Let me know I still have 6 or 8 of them still hanging around...
Any of them in real nice cosmetic condition, Lee? I might want to get one or two from you if it's got the wood box and looks nice. I've got 3 of them and they are all pretty beat up, two need the big knobs for sure, and I saw a thread about some modifications to the Series I correlator that look promising.

I'll take some pics when I get home Dave. I've also got 3 4000 preamps. 2 of them absolutely mint...cosmetically
