I get 2-3 emails a week from people looking for a power switch. does anybody have a source for either type that was used.? I am looking at options to use the switch to drive a relay or a triac.

If you're looking at a single deck they can get pretty small, especially if it's a low current application.

Were these amps designed by Greg Kinear (sic)?

These would work except the knobs for most 700"s are a push on type with a "D" shaft. I've never been able to modify a round shaft into a D shaft and have it work and look right. Very labor intensive.
Broken car stereo donor perhaps?

Got in touch with friend repairing McIntosh gears here (i.e. in Warsaw). He indicated one more option: http://www.analogmetric.com/goods.php?id=1164. Slightly less than 3/8'' but D-shaft type as a bonus ;-) ...

Don, a Dremel with a drum sanding attachment and in two minutes it can be DAMN close.
