Peggy Sue Gerron (Rackham) was a 17 year old Catholic schoolgirl made immortal in music history when Buddy Holly wrote a love song about her and recorded it in the late 1950s. Legend has it that she even heard him perform it in a concert before hs tragic death in a plane crash with other members of his touring group and artists in the shows that included J.D. 'The Big Bopper' Richardson. Waylon Jennings cheated fate when he took the route by car. Plane crashes took many of the best artists of the 50s, 60s and even the 70s, from Ritchie Valens (same plane), Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline to Jim Croce. John Denver died flying his own plane a few years ago.
Holly also wrote a sequel called Peggy Sue Got Married as a demo that wasn't released until it was discovered years after his death. The premise of that song was turned into a hit motion picture featuring Kathleen Turner as Peggy Sue (it was a dream fantasy of course).
