If you're any where near an urban area, RS will do stock transfers from stores within their own "region" as the manager called it. That's how I'm getting mine.

From that same thread, there's also a pretty decent soldering station that RS was selling for $100 marked down to $40. part number:6400207

The stand on the one I picked up is nicer than that pictured on the RS site- has bit storage, and solder spool holder.

Looks like a comparable unit at Circuit Specialists is $60, so not really a screaming deal like the panavise, but not bad either.

RS is so weird to me. They're a little high normally for the stuff we'd be interested in. Then they slash the price hard on (teeheehee) clearance, but don't really show that on the web site. Neither of these is even marked "sale" much less are they in the "clearance section" of the RS site.

RS has been flirting with financial trouble for quite a while and does strange things like this as a result. That store is a long way away from the roots that made it successful originally. I really wish them tons of success but in many respects they are their own worst enemy. I am not sure that the clientele exists any more either that made them successful. Thinking not...

No doubt about this in my mind whatsoever. Very little modern electronics are really serviceable even if you knew what to do.

I continue to be amazed that they still exist.

At least they have stopped trying to sell me a cell phone EVERY time I walked through the door. :hello1:
