Can anyone tell me the secret to determine if the JBL 2241's I have acquired are all original ?
They are pristine and Look brand new....
4.8 Ohms DC resistance...
What makes me wonder is the glue applied to the "cap" is perfect .... No globs ...

Thoughts ?

I have re-coned a few lesser quality speakers in the past ..... I can't get the glue as perfect ...
They always look as if they have been worked on ......
I even used a turntable to spin the whole thing as I applied the glue..... No gluey fingerprints to be found anywhere !

The pro shop I worked at was a JBL service center. I didn't do the recones, the owner's sister did. The recones were done on a bench with two turntable platters and bearings bolted down. She did enough recones to get really good and they looked like new. This despite using MEK with questionable ventilation.

Yea, The turntable idea makes sense to me ..... Keep your shaky hand still and spin the speaker !
The numbers on the cone and frame tell you anything ?

My friends at Harmon say the number on the cone (75809) is a JBL cone part number. So, they are either original or an authorized JBL vendor did the re-cone, which is pretty much the same thing.
