Okay, I believe this one has power supply problems. Which is good!! I can fix that!!
Here's the dignostic timeline;

After prolonged period of being off, unit open , closes, reads disc, stops, accepts play command, plays for 5-6 minutes and goes into pause mode(disc spinning, no advance on play time). No other function but open/close, after closing no disc spin, "No disc " prompt.

After cycling standby/ active switch opens, loads disc, reads disc, stops, plays for 3-4 minutes, goes into pause mode, after stop command no restart, no spin. Will open/close but not spin up to read and "No Disc" prompt appears.
There are 3 regulaors by the PS filter caps-1-7805A, 1-7915A, 1-7815A
Further down on the Board there are 4 regulators; 1-7805A, 1-LM317T, 1-7805A, 1-7805A. Seem to be getting warm.

All that being said, the twin to this one has been running 2 straight hours and 2 of the three 7805 regulators on the PS board are just as hot. In the "further" section.

Ok, changed out the platter/laser assembly and we're up to 35 minutes, starts, reads, plays, stops, restarts reads, plays. Time to rotate this one into the rack for an extended test and play. The first CD3 has been playing all day, so i would say its good to go. Have to remount the platter/laser assembly as this one was loose and floating around in the chassis. Mark sent a bunch of those kinds of parts with them, so maybe i'll get lucky.

We will have 2 ready for auction tomorrow, this CD3 and the CD5S i've been listening to for a week. Larry it's all you now guy. I'll ship from here to whoever winds up with em.

Afternoon Padre! This seems like a good concept with auctioning off components that have at least been repaired and tested. Any other auction, you would bid lower knowing there might be some type of maintenance issues to address.

I'll see about adding some text later to my avatar. I feel good about my new role here as Ferdinando Sarducci. But, last night I had quite a smoker's coughing episode. I almost popped a rib.

Nando.

Is Nando short for Ferdinand?
Lee: Nando is short for my full name Ferdinando. I don't have a middle name.

Nando.

I would think so too Nando, if it can survive my mancave it could well survive yours.
I'm also packing stuff to ship today between fixes, your RG-9, Roberts 850, Larry's MBL-onix, and someone i forgot.

All of these regulators current limit, so check the ooutput voltage after the deck locks up. The LM317 is a variable regulator, so use the "cold voltage" as correct. I suspect the keys are a resistor ladder. If the 5 volts that feeds the ladder changes, the micro "thinks" a key is being pressed. In this case it may be "pause".

Thanks Doc, I'll try that. After swapping out the laser assembly again it runs for a long time and progressively slows down. But I'll check what you have suggested.
