I just don't get it at all. I can't wrap my head around it. Someone want to send me their Pioneers so I can compare them to what I have.

Other than setting the standard for really cool silver faceplates I can recognize no redeaming quality whatsoever.

Stuwee: thanks for posting those pictures. In the first photo, the speakers you see, in the flesh, are the rare Pioneer HPM-200s. And the HPM-100s are siting atop the 200s. I've been looking for a pair of HPM-200s, locally. I have a tall rack which I've been considering mounting my rackable Pioneer components, but asthetically, I like the components to be sitting low on a tiered stereo stand, as I currently use in my master bedroom.

Lee has way more desirable Spec components than I have. I would love to have the hard-to-find Spec 3 preamplifier, and a pair of Spec 4 amplifiers. And of course the rare D-23 crossover!

I've been a Pioneer fan from the mid 70's, when I bought my first Pioneer car stereo (which I still own today). I didn't imagine what Pioneer offered in home stereos, back then- I really hadn't been interested in a home unit. Most of my friends ran, predominantly, Akai, Marantz, Sansui. No one had SAE, and Mike, a friend of mine, had a potent system featuring a Phase Linear amplifier and locally built (Vancouver) Web speakers. He wasn't happy with the amp, as he constantly called it "Fuzz Linear.

And although I love Pioneer components, there are so many good components from yesteryear that it`s hard to go wrong with a classic pick.

Nando.

I was being facetious Larry. I, like Nando owned a Pioneer car stereo before the big stuff. After that I subscribed to "Stereo Review" and got knowed up on the terminology to at least speak with the salesmen and halfway understand what they were talking about. After auditionong my first mui-K system in 1975, I have been F$%#$@ ever since.

Yesterday, while I was at innovative Audio, I picked up two issues of the "The Complete Buyer's Guide To Stereo/Hi-Fi Equipment." They were issues #28 and #29 of 1978. I did collect magazines back in the 70's and on, but passed them onto others. And now, I collect the odd issue, especially the Buyer's Guides to replace my past issues. Just the ads, alone, make you lust after this stuff.

Last night, I was at dinner with a friend I grew up with. He, his wife, and daughter live in Hamburg, Germany and they have been staying in Squamish these past three weeks on a family vacation. While we were looking through photos he had taken, while here, a couple of pictures came up with some new LPs he had bought. Ian was surprised to learn I even was into records. He has kept his Dual 606 turntable he bought new in 1979. I said, "Ian, I have more than just turntables, you'll have to drop by for a listen."

You a smart guy Nando. Ya know in all my dealings, I got stung maybe once, and that was insignificant in the greater scheme of things. All in all most audio folks represent their stuff objectively, except me about my speakers.

As classic an understatement as your collection.
When he does drop by he'll be even more surprised I kept my 1977 Raleigh 12-speed racing bicycle. He and I used to ride together. He owned an orange Peugot back then. A friend of mine, Robert, wants to buy my Raleigh off me. I'll have to see about restoring it, as it still has the original tires on it... all dry rotted.
