Hello folks, my name is Mike and I’m new here. Well not really, but made it official today. It’s time to update my PL 400 (ser# 13866) as it’s been getting rather noisy as of late. I acquired this amp when it was about five years old along with a pair of Klipsch LaScala’s. I did some remodeling for a friend and he gave me this gear as payment. The speakers had the crossovers and tweeters replaced with some Crites units this past summer so it was time to tune-up the amp.
The first task is installing the recently purchased 16.8K uf White Oak Cap Upgrade. Still researching the PL 14_20 kit but that’s coming in a week or so.This is all a bit intimidating since I’m a gearhead by trade and hope I can struggle thru this conversion. Installing the parts I can handle but some of the setup procedures are a bit daunting and getting access to some of the equipment you guys talk about might be a tall order. It looks like Joe King has taken a lot of the technical skills out of the process but it’s still black magic to me.
There is so much information here it is all hard to digest but can probably find answers to any questions that I might have. I promise not to make a pest of myself and want to thank you all for sharing your wealth of knowledge with those who, like me, are electronically challenged. Again, thanks for having me.
