It's a tire company thing, they fight for the right to have their product used. The last company got boo'd from the track by fans because they had to bring the cars in every 15 laps to change tires, they were breaking up so badly, the guys were hitting the walls hard, NASCAR made a safety call. 50,000 fans left the stands, ten times that changed channels, very bad for business.

Little more than 60 years. My Dad was racing with these guys on Daytona Beach many years ago. Petty is no spring chicken and his Dad raced before him.
