Bought on E-Bay as a non-worker in one channel.. Decent price, mainly to see if I could duplicate the same thing I did to Chris's

Nice score - you'll nail it as we all know. Of course you are now obligated to give us the before and after shots.

Yeah, good lookin amps, no slouch in the sound department either, and they'll kick out the jams at 350 per channel if need be. Well built, have had one I bought brand new in 1975. Finally needed some work in 2009. And it DID NOT have an easy life.

I thought babies were delivered by storks? Or maybe a super-stork with the weight of the Spec-Baby cradled below it.

Lee: you have lots of experience with those babies and you know what to feed them. That face is only one a mother would love - a bit brutish, don't you think?

Nando.

Not brutish in the sense of physical condition, Lee. Just brutish in the sense it seems purposeful and meant to kick butt.

Nando.

It will be when I'm done with it. There was quite a difference between this one and mine. I did not have the current limiters set correctly on mine. This one can take the K-Horns pretty darn close to their limits, and sounds good doing it.

Yes, or damn close to it. We're talking demolition here Joe. It's amazing the K's can get as loud as they do and in the sweet spot you actually get thumped in the chest during a good bass passage.

When I hear something truly dynamic like that, im reminded that there is something left out from these oh-so forgiving modest systems. When I used to sell klipsch, as much as I had other personal preferences, I always thought I would have a second rig with some kind of klipsch tower in the mix. I know these are a bit different, but I really liked the KLF(30) speakers that came along in the late 90's.
Very fun stuff. With enough room and $ I'd have multiple systems, and Id be proud to own a set of the classic monster khorns. Furthermore I have analog meter envy BAD!

Mark (skratch) may have found an alternative to the K-Horns, check out his thread. They are supposed to be real deal.

I guess you could call my system--"Physically Interactive"

Lee - if you only knew - I'm still collecting test equipment and a lot of other stuff. HP 8903A on the way!

Anyways the modification of the 3300 is in process (photos to come). Lifted a pad - fc@3king single layer board. I'm glad you posted before and after photos as the some of the transistors are 180 out. I was going to send you a PM (regarding the error) but downloaded the spec sheets and realized the relative position of the BCE was different between the original devices and the new ones.

The post is pending - really.

Dennis,
Some manufacturers did change the orientation of their devices. These are TO-92 devices and I have attached a printout that I find handy from time to time.

I will let Lee weigh in on this but the only way to be sure is to download the datasheet from the maker of the actual device.

Mark

That's where my little B&K 510 earns it's keep. Plug the ranny into the socket and turn the switch till the light comes on, then voila--- good/bad with pinout info!! Works on everything so far except a Fairchild TIS-97,.

Should have warned you about the pinout differences on the older devices, BUT, knew you had the service manual and they're pretty anal about bringing that up.
