Hi,
First off I don't have one. I think I should likely do this to
My deck (pioneer ctf9191) and I've never done it before either.

Recommendations?

Thanks,
-Joe

Joe: There are the cassette-style demagnetizers for the heads, but you would need a pencil type to do the rest of the tape travel path.

I am all out I think. I'll look. Some people get carried away. Do it when you think you need it.1st thing I do on a new deck. Clean, do the rubber. Deox and demag.

Joe, I use a bulk eraser for my decks, some folks prefer a wand type. Ther are three very important things to remember when de-maging...

1. Remove all tapes from the room, preferably several rooms away.

2. if the unit has a switch, be at least 3 feet away from the heads when you turn it on, move slowly towards the heads and pass the unit over the head area for a few seconds, Do Not turn it off! Move slowly away back about 3 feet then switch it off or unplug it

3. Do Not touch the heads with the unit!! Ever!

I do cassette decks every 6 months, RtR's every 10 plays or so. I bought the bulk one so I could do tapes as well as the heads, very powerful, but it doesn't erase metal tapes, not enough gauss power for them.

Joe, you usually start to hear the highs get duller for one thing, I might do mine a little to often, but I'm anal that way. I don't think you can hurt anything by doing it before things get into the 'need' area, just my 2 nickels.

RtR's need it more frequently because of the faster tape speed and wider tape.
