Sony KV-5000_8000 cord needed.jpg This thing.

I have a good Sony KV-5000 and no cord anymore. It was an AC/DC model and the KV-5000 uses the same thing. Are the top elements the ones for AC and what cord do I need?

This set has the audio and video offset so that they are not together, detune either way for each, I saw the service manual on eBay for about $5.50 and postage but it would still make a nice video monitor for analog or computer from a modulator and it's got a great tube, no antenna but I THINK I have the external input module for it.

I ran it last when there was still analog TV and the picture is beautiful and surprisingly large and usable for it's size.

I don't know which side is AC. The service manual is only $5.45 and $2.25 shipping and I need to get the audio and video back together. It's not as simple as using the fine tuning ring on the tuner knob, they are OFFSET and not together, one is higher than the other.

I was thinking a narrow female vertical two prong plug like I have for my Teac RTRs would work...if I knew which two to plug into. TOP?

Another good thing is that I just got me a couple VGA and DVI monitor cables AND another monitor, I was short on all of that for working on my other chassis. I have four complete monitors I can run now, 2 standard, to widescreen and I can use Alison, Valerie and Delia at the same time plus work on another at any given time.

See picture #2 and tell me if what I think will work will indeed work.

Got the case apart and found more dust bunnies than a desert bordello on the bottom PCB. Working on that. Pics coming. Maybe you can tell me how to adapt the antenna module from that picture as well. Probably wiring a balun in through the antenna hole.

I hope that helps. It's a glorious mess of 1970s stuff crammed in a nice metal frame, a real TV.

If I get it to where I can give it a signal I will wonder if the cleanup did most of the trick or will I wait for the manual.

A balun, yes, I was thinking you were going to have some impedance issues with the ideas you outlined on photo #2 of post #8. Good work so far!

btw, I'm going to remember "...more dust bunnies than a desert bordello..." What a turn of phrase - I wish I had thought that one up!

Okay...so the balun is twin lead at the end and the antenna lead only one wire. The UHF Tuner uses twin lead, which isn't used. Do I just use one lead or both?

And what good is a filthy metaphor if it's not really creative?

Hopefully Home Repo or True Value has the correct power cord for my other Teac 2340 because I don't shop at Wally World.

Navo, Joe, anybody? If I bridge the twinleads of my balun will it be 75 ohms or close again or should I use only one lead? I can have it put together and checked out before I get the manual, just to see if other things need to be fixed.

I'm told just add an F connector and ground it, but to what?

I have a few female to female connectors but the cabinet is all plastic. That would make more sense than the balun as I can anchor it with a nut.

I was told that if it was a hot set (transformerless?) I couldn't ground to the tuner shield but it has a transformer and AC goes directly to it, so I'm gathering I can ground to the shield?

My makeshift connection didn't hold together so I'll do it again and try it out later, it's a big busy, bicycling kind of day.
