Born Anne Frances Robbins in 1921, she was better known as Nancy Davis in her movie roles and as the love interest to Ronald Reagan in Hellcats Of The Navy (which is a favorite of mine actually). She would later marry Reagan and go on to be First Lady to him as both Governor of California and President of the United States.

Nancy's cause célèbre was the fight against drug abuse, and made the phrase "Just Say No" famous.

She was also known for the privacy she maintained for her husband when he announced that he had Alzheimer's Disease. She never remarried.

She died today at the age of 94. She left behind a quiet legacy in her final years, not even well regarded by some Republicans who should have known to be quiet and respect the woman who helped shaped the life of the man who transformed their party and it's conservative nature.

One only had to see her eyes as she talked to Reagan onscreen in Hellcats and you knew how she felt.

She brought two children into the world, Patti Davis and Ron Reagan, both of whom were a testament to their parents.

She was also famous for reviving the fashion and style of the Kennedys in the White House and in American life as well, which she was admired and simultaneously mocked for (e.g. the White House china story).

I've poked fun at her now and then myself but she's my favorite First Lady and I admired her. She was devoted in everything she did.
No matter what you think of the 1980s, it's spirit has just about passed entirely now.

Instead of focusing on an obituary or two, I'll give a search query with the wiki...the life of Nancy Reagan is a lot bigger than one article.

PS You can see that the President knew who was most important in their portrait :)
