We haven't met up for 4 years now, so we both felt it was time to do another visit. I mentioned to Nando about the stereo shop that opened here in town and said I'd show him a few stores while here. So we planned to meet up for lunch and Nando drove here to my home town of Chilliwack. He drove his Grand National down and met up at the coffee shop to park. We had to show each other the goodies we saved for each other and I also showed him my home subwoofer I brought to get checked out as well. The sub seems to be working, so I brought it back with me to take home again. It was good to see Nando after such a long absence.

When we both got to the coffee shop (within minutes of each other), a guy walking with a group came over and shook Nando's hand complimenting him on his Grand National. It is a sweet car indeed.

We first went to the local used bookstore that sells music- especially vinyl. He found a record to take back with him and we chatted with the store owner. Next up was the main attraction- Classic Sound. This is the stereo shop that specializes in vinyl/ turntables, and also sells used and new records, plus used equipment. They also sell new equipment and speakers. This is the place I bring my amps to get repaired. The tech here also makes custom gear and they will be custom making my tube phono preamp for me. We looked around and chatted with the store owner. I put a down payment on my phono pre while there. The owner mentioned he would allow the tech to look at my Pioneer deck to see if they can do anything with it.

Then went to lunch and caught up with each other on how things were going. Last stop was the other book store that sells records. All these stores were walking distances from each other. Nando found some Tomita records to pick up and a book as well. He commented on how nice our used book stores here are.

On the way back- Nando pointed out the brand new cassette he picked up for me. It was a Keith Richards tape of a new release. I had no idea that they release new material on cassette. In the bag was some reading material and also a reel tape Nando made up for me.

It was good to catch up with Nando and I mentioned when I get my own apartment, I'll be inviting him over to check out my stereo and media collection. Here are some pictures of the day.

Just got home, now, Scott. There had been an accident on the Ironworker's Memorial Bridge that slowed me up, but I managed to make up time.

Thanks go to Scott for taking a day off work in order for us to meet. We had pre-planned this meeting a month in advance and everything turned out memorably. Scott was the perfect host, showing me around the main part of old Chilliwack. We had lunch at a restaurant/cafe within the Royal Hotel, which is a heritage building dating back to 1908. Scott paid for my meal, which is kind of him. I have lots to say about our day, and of course, many pictures to show off. I have a few things to do around the house before I get back on the computer.

Thanks, stuwee. Geri and I finally did get our passports, so who knows if we make it across the border. She has an aunt in Philomath, Oregon, she wants to visit, who is now 85 years old.

I love driving the GN. Unlike my old 1971 Buick GS 455, it's quiet and gets great gas mileage. While leaving from Chilliwack, I caught up to a 60's Pontiac that had been hopped up and we both gave our nods to each other as we split up from traffic to head in our different directions. The round trip to visit Scott in Chilliwack was 330 kms. or 205 miles. The GN only has 44,000 miles on the odometer, so driving this car is as if it had just come off the dealer lot in 1986. I have only clocked about 11,000 miles on it since buying it in June 2007.

I loved the downtown area of old Chilliwack. Downtown Squamish is much the same, with a total lack of big-box retailers. You can get that, if you travel further from the town centre. The book shops, Scott took me to, were well-organized, stocked with all sorts of curios for display, and all the store shop owners were very friendly and talkative. I will always support small business and I did buy a couple of records and a poetry book for Geri. One of the cool things we witnessed on Wellington Avenue was a fellow playing a piano outside on an alcove alongside the sidewalk. Seems anyone can play the communal piano, if they wish.

We had a great talk with Neil of Nugget Used Books & Records. This was the first shop we visited. I was surprised to see that he actually had a few movie titles in LaserDisc. Bought a Uriah Heep album, there. Neil was a hoot to talk to and I saw many neat vintage items on display, throughout the store, that drew my attention.

Our second stop was at Classic Sound Records & Audio. We spent the most time, there. Here are a few pictures I took while in the store:

More to add, later on.

Nando.
