Probably not going there myself, I don't spend a lot of time worrying if the tubes are failing since most will last a couple of thousand hours.

I have a hard time believing there is only one transistor in there replacing a tube. Probably a lot more support going on in there.

Jim, that's what they said about this young lad on the East Coast when he decided to replace the guts in a crappy old amplifier with shiny stuff he cobbled together in his lab. WHY???? If I have to answer that, you've learned nothing from hanging around here for the last umpteen years.....
