Modifying rtp-burnsville's Cabbage Case to hold the Spec gea

The CC made it last week. With the Specs in it there is a 2" void all the way around. Tried various foams both hard and soft, but I didn't like the support. So I remembered a post by Stuwee when his Teac cassette deck was shipped.
So I lined the CC with a heavy duty garbage sack , suspended the Spec on some 1" aluminum angle and checked fit, took the Spec out and sprayed 3" of Great Stuff Big Gap Filler, put the Spec in a garbage sack, and suspended the Spec back in the CC. I then added the foam in 2" layers with water misted over each layer. The water helps the yield of the expansion and gives a consistent quality to the foam. It certainly snugged up the fit. I will trim the cured foam flush with the faceplate and add some squishy foam on top and send it on.

I did this with a Honda Pilot engine I shipped to a friend in Illinois from MO to be rebuilt. Worked with no issues at all.

Put the 400cc 2 stroke in a heavy walled cardboard box. Put some extra cardboard in and filled it with Great Stuff. It was retuned in the same box but new Great Stuff.

An updated. This morning the foam was cured. Trimmed the big blobs off and pulled outy the guinea pig Spec 1. The plastic garbage sack liner stuck to the foam and the Spec slid right out. Grabbed up the newly restored Spec 1 of Chris' and while having Jani keep tension on the inner sack, it slid right in. Took out the aluminum angle and the result was more than I hoped for. The foam remained somewhat pliable and coupled with the 3" squishy foam--a dandy combination--I love it.

I think you have described a new shipping method. I estimate the cost of a 1/4-1/2 can of Great Stuff! is about the same as a roll of bubble wrap and a package of foam peanuts at the local Mailboxes USA.

12.00 in Great Stuff. And the foam insert can be removed and used again. The Spec 1 differs in size from the Spec 2 enough that a new insert will be poured when the CC makes it back.
The real nervousness was over whether or not the Great Stuff would eat through the garbage sack, that would have sucked.
