Tonight, I completed a long overdue recording for Lee. He wanted a copy from my LP of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 1973 album, "Brain Salad Surgery" recorded on open reel tape. The whole album fit on Side A , leaving a few minutes on Side A and all of Side B of the 7" Maxell UD 35-90. I'll fill the rest with more classic ELP, perhaps, their first album of 1970 and a few cuts from "Works."

More details about the specifics of the recording to come once I finish Lee's tape.

Nando.

I have a bunch of ELP. Let me look what I have. Also have some yes. I record slow. I can't hear the difference. Let me know if you are interested. Also should I set the tape up for auto re?

It's good to be recording, again. I haven't done a mix tape for a few months, at least. But, now that I have started, I'll try catching up on those I need to follow up on: one other open reel and about four cassettes. They will be going to friends who I've exchanged tapes with this past year. I, even, got a request yesterday to dub an 8-track onto cassette for the staff who work at the mini flea market, here. So, I dug out the Pioneer H-R99 to do that.

The mail is finally starting to move, so I am confident about mailing out a few parcels to Phoenix members this week. Lee gets the largest parcel.

O BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The SR-303???????
The SR-303, two vintage albums, a newly released CD, the mix tape I'm working on, and the the other tape reels you lent me for dubbing. You are a good guy, Lee, and I appreciate all that you do for me and others in this forum.

Ahhhhhh, more photos to lust over....... :) Nice setup and photos Nando!

What do you guys use to switch many input devices into one or two amplifiers? I have a couple 8 channel mixers but my latest hording of decks has outgrown the number of available inputs.

  on Nando's pics! Robert, I use a Rat Shack switcher with 4 inputs, although I'm positive it adds some noise to the signal. So I plug my main decks in use into the pre for recording the TT, and for CD's I go direct to the deck.

Oh, I have a couple of those Rat Shack 3 input to 1 output switch boxes, forgot about them. I also have some patchbays and a mtn of cables but never had much luck with most of that stuff with low level signals. Something always tends to cut-out at the wrong time in the recording process. Direct is good but hate that standing on my head to patch things.

Thanks,
Robert

Thank looks like a solution.... Lee, sent you a PM.
Oooo, you'll love that!! Robert, I have all my stuff out in the open, easy to swap stuff, IC's etc...

When I want to CD direct I just swap the IC's from the pre to the Teac cassette, or put a chair next to the RtR (hard to see in the pic, it's that dark thing all the way back)

Thanks for the comments about my system, guys. Regarding Robert's question of how to patch multiple sources into one router then onto the preamplifier, or receiver: I use the dbx 400X in my upstairs system, as shown. It's quite flexible, and I doubt I've used the full features of it, yet. In my downstairs system, I use a dj style mixer. It doesn't have the flexibility of the dbx 400X, but, because it's a preamp mixer/equalizer I have two phono inputs and it's much better having the faders to tailor the gain on each of the sources for up to eight stereo channels. Another easy way to maximize the number of recording/playback decks using one set of stereo input and output jacks is to daisy chain your decks. Take the outputs (play) from deck #1 and patch into the inputs (record) of deck #2 and then deck #2 outputs (play) to deck #3 inputs, and so on. Make sure the decks' tape monitor switch is correctly set to receive a signal.

I think I have too many components, already, as I need to free up a tape loop to use the Pioneer RG-9 I got from Lee.

Thank you, Lee! Tonight, I completed your mix tape recording. Side B of your tape is a recording of the first self-titled Emerson, Lake & Palmer LP from 1970. I hope you will like it as much as I have. It's an album which I go back to quite often to play. With the remainder of Side A & B, I squeezed in a few cuts of the 1977 "Works Volume 2" album, which I originally bought in 1977.

I have a little paperwork to do: the song list, affix some labels, etc before the tape will be what I consider completed. This is not a virgin Maxell UD 35-90, as it came from a bunch of tapes I bought, recently, which had already been recorded on. This particular tape had been labelled "Children's Music." Yup, Kermit the Frog and the rest of the Muppets gang had been taped on it.
