MFSL 24K Gold CD Boston "Third Stage"

[Lazarus Short]

I found this the other day in stacks of mostly unremarkable CD's at a thrift. It is in a thin jewelbox with no paperwork at all, just the bare, naked disc. It needs a good home, and I'm not a big fan of classic rock. Shoot me an offer.

I'd trade you another cd for it. I am more interested just to see how it sounds. Not a very good album by Boston though Amanda is a pretty good tune. LMK

You're right - not a great album, kinda generic. So what do you propose to trade? Be aware that my musical tastes are quite specific and somewhat esoteric.

What bands/genres you like? I have about 100 cds I culled from my collection. Really no biggie man, I was just interested in hearing it compared to Deb's copy and see if it really sounds better

I thought about the SRV but I just have a regular CDP so it would be a waste of money to me. So perhaps I can't even enjoy the MFSL Boston so I will probably pass Laz

The whole album rocks. You must not be playing it loud enough. I would love to go to Lee's house and listen to that album in it entirety at all his system can throw out.......This is not an album to be listen to at 87DB. More like 130 140 150 DB is better. IMHO I think its better than their self title debut album, as far as sound quality goes. That album Boston sends shrills down my spine in a bad way. Kinda like that gal at the church that sings with a shrill in here voice

MOFI generally had good taste in music and did not remaster the dogs...

Oh, I agree the mastering is great on it it's just that the only album I really like by Boston was the first. The 2nd one was not that great either IMO

There's the word I was looking for Mastering
As you well know a lot of the 70's music sucked because of the mastering. It sounds good at the concert and then you go home and listen to it on Album and then it leaves you scratching you head.....

The original Epic Boston s/t album is really a decent sounding record. The original CD release was also great. Hell the 8 track tape was good LOL

Tom Scholz has a very unique guitar tone. I still have a Rockman Sustainer, only problem with it is it's Boston in a box and is not really usable for other non-Boston songs. He used a really heavy and tight midrange and created a sound all his own and uniquely Boston
