I've got a dilemma. How do you make the connections to a Martin Logan panel? A couple of years ago, I bought some Martin Logan ReQuest speakers in parts and pieces. I have the panels which are intact and the crossovers, and the woofer drivers. I wanted to make new cabinets, and replace the woofers with some nicer, bigger ones. My problem is making the connection to the panels. How do you make the contact? Solder will not work......the way I was trying anyway.. Do I need to drill the edge of the panel and make the connection that way? Do I need to aggressively sand a little spot to get the solder to stick? Any help will be appreciated..... I would really like to pick back up on this project, and make some nice panel trim pieces and attach to the front baffle of a new enclosure for the woofer drivers, and make a new re-ReQuest speaker....but I can't get a good connection to the panel. It has been a while, but if someone can help me figure out the best way to proceed, I think this would be an excellent speaker when completed... Maybe a nice 15" Crites woofer or something else...crossed over to the excellent ML electrostatic panels. After the connection problem is solved, I can then move on the the actual crossover, and see if it needs any changes..which I am guessing COULD be improved...presently set up to crossover at 180 Hz.

Thanks in advance...........

I'm confused. Can you take a pic? Are you trying to join 2 wires together. If so 3Mmakes a click splice which are good.No stripping or anything.

I'm not quite understanding what you're doing with these, so I highly suggest you call CS at ML (some of the nicest folks I've dealt with on the phone (785) 749-1033. I've replaced both woofers on my Sequel's, they soldered up just fine. The panels are another story, I don't want to give you any misinformation.

As to the bigger woofers and the crossovers, you should sign up at the ML Owners Forum for more info, I did a quick check and there's lot's of pitfalls with messing with the crossovers, but I'm not good understanding all that stuff. You might want to hunt down a skeezer on the Descent i subwoofer (one of the finest subs on the market). And try to build something along those lines. Integration between the panels and the woofers is key, and ML has one a fine job with all their hybrid speakers. They were never meant to be Cerwin Vega party speakers, those ReQuests are $5,000 worth of nice, I'd make them as pretty as you can with your original componets and get a nice active crossover and a Descent i clone if you MUST have the bass in your face.

Sutton, I had a moment tonight, you sick power dudes made me try sumthin', I put 'Selena' on and I sat about 10' from the Logan's, they have a 10" driver ported underneath front mounted, I sat there naked and Damn if the hair on my legs didn't blow back

Think about what you want to do with the ReQuests, can you post some pics of the pieces??

I am in Florida visiting my parents right now, and when I get home I'll get some picrtures, but basically what I have are a pair of reQuests...in parts, minus the wood. I have the electostatic panels, with NO WOOD TRIM, the woofers, and front baffles for the woofers with the crossovers. I do not have the "box" which contained the woofers, onlu the front baffles where the woofers conneted. The actual panels are what I am having trouble with. They are painted metal frames with no connections for power. That is where I have the problem. Ther is nothing to connect the positive and negative leads to the crossover. The tabs are gone.... I know I;ll have to take pics so you can understand..

I'll snap em as soon as I return North...sorry for the confusion...
