Hoping Sam's still lurking around to see this!

Anywhoo... I saw a Teac V-900X for sale, and it seemed that the owner really didn't want to part with it. So I've offered to see what I can do. Thing is - supposedly those V-900X's are scary as heck to work on. Symptom is it doesn't play (all I know for now). Just how scary can it get with those, eh? Anyone seen one of those on the inside?

It's a pretty nice deck, lot's of 'Compu' this and that on them. I'd bet the inside is packed with boards. Shoot Sam an email or drunk call him on the birthday, work it :occasion5: :occasion9: :occasion1: :occasion5:

The V900X is a great deck once you have the pleasure of working on it. People all the time jump to conclusions that there is something very complicated in the deck that must be broken but a good technician knows better. I think I bought one for about $6 once because of what I know and the other guy did not.
Long story short- If the deck will not stay in play mode, first check for cassette compartment lamp- if it is out that is the first order of business. This is NOT just a light but provides light for the reel table opto sensors. Just do not put any lamp in the lens but one that is bright enough and not too hot. Some have told me they replaced with LED's. A blue or white LED or 5mm or maybe 3mm I would guess would be the trick. If it is not that then the deck may need oiling or a reel table idler tire. They are solid machines and can be intimidating but you guys know me and I have about 8 or 9 of them here.
Would I buy junk? No, so with my bunch of C-3RX and other great decks this holds it own.

I swear you are so fast Sam. You didn't bring the sandwiches though.

Jerry, tell the guy it's gonna cost hundreds in parts and labor to put right, then offer him $50

Nah, do the right thing...hit him over the head with a bat and get it for free :rabbit:

Well not everyone is ignorant of the lamp issue so they can sell pretty fast sometimes. Since I have so many, and I am going to be selling some- I will keep you and the group in mind as first choice.
