Had a local sale for this 2000. had bought it awhile ago cause it was pretty cherry. Standard restore. Caps, transistors, new Brown Dog with Burr-Browns for the 4136, Desolder and dismount all pots and rca jacks and De-Oxit the shit outta things for 3-4 hours. It really turned out nice, I'm pretty pleased with it.
One issue is I don't think the volume pot is audio taper. Don't know if it was a factory mistake or somewhere down the line, but very small turning of the knob results in very large change in volume, course it was feeding a WOPL 1000.

Always liked the looks of the series II 2000's. How does she sound? Which opamp did you stick in her? Have you ever tried the LT1364 I recommended?

Scott, I put in a pair of Burr-Brown OPA-2134's, surface mount on a Brown Dog RC 4136 adapter. Joe and Fabo-Nav looked for adapters and subs for the RC4739 for a couple days and what they found were not suitable for audio. Joe sugghested "dead bugging" on top of a socket, as he has done quite a bit of. My first attempts at it were pretty pitiful, and in the middle of scrapping another Burr Brown had one of those epiphany's, so we'll see.

Scott, honestly don't remember the LT recommendation. Do you have it in place of the RC 4136 AND the 4739??

Think I recommended it to you back in a 3300 thread awhile back. I've not used it to replace 4136 and 4739 but have used it in several other applications with good results, better than all the other BB's I've sampled. I do want to sample the OPA627 someday though, but they're around $25 bucks a pop for single channels opamps.

Thanks Bud i'll try it. What differences are you hearing?
Missed this one.

I'm not good at the audiophile descriptions, so I'll just say it sounds best to my ears. Maybe this: Better bass, better overall clarity - that's all I can muster!

Very nice PL 2000 Ser II, Lee. I don't see those models pop up very often at Innovative Audio.

Thanks Scott, an audiophile answer would just confuse me anyway-----(with a british accent)----"The mids sounded like a glass of Claret on a spring afternoon....."

Nando, I'm surprised cause you aren't that far from Seattle. Course Heart had to smuggle their 700's in so maybe the import thing was a hassle..

There are more Carver pieces that show up at IA, than Phase Linear. I don't know whether any of you had read this. It's an article written by Brent Butterworth of Sound + Vision magazine. I met Brent at IA when we conducted a Tape Deck Shootout there, last summer. After the Shootout, Brent was returning back home to California, but he had an interview with Bob Carver, as he was travelling back home. Here's the article:

Lee: After my few phone conversations with you, I think you and Bob would get along quite well. You are the same person on the phone as you are on-line.

Don't desire to be anything else Nando. I'm quite comfortable in my skin.
