10 years ago, I used a Klipsch K42 pro Woofer in my Heresys, instead of the K22 that it contained in the original sealed box.
I was trying to improve the "handoff" to the "faster" K700 Horn midrange with the K-55 compression driver.
After a capacitor refresh on the Klipsch "E" network using Dayton Capacitors from Parts Express, I was ready to go.
Since the woofer is a high bl woofer with a huge magnet, I know that the bass response would be even thinner than the original.
So I ported it in the rear, since it was the only place to put it.
I also swapped out the Super Tweeter for a Small Machined Aluminum Horn Lens with a b&c DE-120 Super Tweeter Driver sold on Ebay as a drop in replacement for the original tweeter. It is known as the sMAHL and responsibe for the "Super" in the name of my Mod.
I has been built all over the world by enthusiastic modder and I have NEVER read any feedback that was anything but "WOW." AFAIK, not one single person ever went back to the original after doing my Mod.
I have lost the original curves as Proof, but I was amazed when those little boxes went down to 30 Hz. in my small bedroom at the time (mostly Cabin Gain).
I have attached a PDF of the recipe for those who want to try it with own pair of Klipsch Heresys from before 1982. If you create a new rear panel for the port, the mod is totally reversible. I know of no one who ever went back once they did it.
With the cost of new Heresy IV's at over $3,000 a pair, you can do this for your OLD pair for less than $800 total in 2025 dollars.
Have fun and enjoy superior sound if you do what Nike says "Just do it."
