I just picked this little beast up from Bill yesterday. It belongs to a friend of mine. One channel was quite weak. Bill replaced the caps in the psu and power amp section for a total of around 40 caps altogether. He also changed some bulbs. This is a pretty impressive little unit and at a guess weighs around 40 or 50 lbs. It can also crank out the jams. My buddy also has the matching tuner, and I hooked him up with a KD 2500 turntable to go with his Kenny rig. The table had been just laying around here not in use anyways.

I had Bill put my 1801 on hold while he worked on this and some other gear. Money was tight, but when I spoke to him yesterday gave him the go ahead to get it up and running in full force. It would appear as though the boards are gonna need quite a bit more work than the one already repaired. No ETA yet on when ill get one eye back.

Does Bill seem to be busier with repairing more vintage gear? It's nice of you to get your friend a Kenwood turntable to go along with his other Kenwood components. Does he also have Kenwood speakers?

I had a Kenwood KA-4002, talk about a great phono section.... nice gear there, same vintage as the 4002.

Bill seems to do a bit of everything. When I arrived yesterday there was a fellow picking up a powered sub that he was working on. He also mentioned he does tube gear and guitar amps as well as dvd players, and TV's.

Ive had the Kenwood table for some time. It was just sitting in the pile of repair gear. It needed a belt. I gave it to him under the agreement that 1 he needed to put a belt on it and 2 he could have it for as long as he wants it but when/if he decides to upgrade or no longer wants it, it has to come back to me.

No he rocks a pair of 12" Cerwins that have been restored. He is currently running them with Pioneer SA7100 as a loaner until the Kenwood gets back to him.

That KA-6000, a nice solid 24.5 pounds of pure high performance Kenwood electronics is one sweet piece. Before the power wars, 1970 or so and it was top of the line. This series of Kenwood with the thick sculptured faceplate, nice knobs and such was their best line of gear until the L-series came out. Most really like the sound of the amps. Add the crossover, denoiser, audio oscilloscope and tuner for a sweet stack of gear. I like the way the faceplate of the top unit nearly touches the one below because the side panels and feet are made just so. A great piece. Glad it was rebuild for good future use.

I would have guessed it at weighing a lot more. It has some heft to say the least.

Bill left the old caps to be seen through the venting on the top, while having disconnected them and added the new caps underneath, to keep the visual appeal of the interior as the new caps were quite a bit smaller.
