In a box with a JVC CD player in an unused office. Powers on, no cables or DATs here at the office; hopefully we'll see if it really works tomorrow. Pay no attention to the BPC Technics receiver - I snagged it from surplus a couple years ago when I moved in here.

And as I just posted in the Score thread - the transport isn't working from electrical commands. I can insert and eject a tape but it won't play, FF, or RW and with the top off, it doesn't appear to engage the tape when it's inserted in the play position. It will spin the drum a few seconds and insert the tape but then the drum stops and the tape mechanism won't engage with the tape cassette nor will it eject it on command. I have to remove the tape by spinning the plastic gear on the side of the mechanism.

Ideas, anyone? Many thanks...

Maybe a belt or sensor. They can be tricky machines, I have never repaired one.
Any reel movement?

Could be a belt driven cam but I’d expect gear drive. Try taking the bottom off if you can or use a boresxope to look around.

Service manual even better…

I've got the top off. The gear on the side rotates as it should and I can rescue a tape by using that, just doesn't seem to be getting electrical signal to make it work. Oh well, all else fails, I can sit it on the desk at work and let it look pretty.

Can't even locate an operations manual, let alone service manual. Found an ops manual for an A6, which seems similar but has the transport located in the middle of the deck.
