in his hotel room in Zurich, Switzerland between the 15th and 16th, according to web sources. Brother of legendary musician Edgar Winter and a stellar bluesman in his own right, Winter's 1969 signing to Columbia Records was notable in rock history and gave him invaluable exposure to audiences worldwide and the opportunity to work with many legendary artists.

Bunmmer. He was on his last legs and never took care of himself to begin with. A friend saw him semi recently and he could barely hold his guitar. The dude is a legend, the last of the true blues warriors

RIP Johnny

RIP, Johnny

Wow, my wife and I were just coming back from a funeral in Ohio and I spent an hour or so listening to him recorded live back in the 70s with Rick Derringer...that's ironic, huh?
What a smokin' hot player he was, I remember seeing him in 1972 or so in Santa Monica, CA. when he and Derringer opened for J. Geils. He put on a fantastic show, and I saw him again in 1992 or so up in Canada in Sault Ste. Marie. He was sick then, he always burned the candle at both ends and struggled mightily with hard drugs for many years...He was a true genius on guitar and a huge influence on my own playing.
RIP, Johnny...we'll miss ya.
