Johan's Accuphase PCB repair

Johan's Accuphase pre has a board problem. It split along the edge connector making 10 traces non-conductive. On Joe's advise I bought some high dollar super-tough 3M Scotchweld Epoxy. IT IS NOT cheap. For 3.3 oz it was 46.00 delivered. My plan is to reinforce it on the component side with some .100 PCB material out of an Allen-Bradley 1336 Drive. VERY nice stuff.
On the foil side a previous solder attempt will make this a wee bit more difficult. It will take some time with the solder sucker and the ol exacto knife to make it right. I then plan on laying some wire strands accross the breaks in the traces to re-establish continuity.....

Now that looks like a fun repair. I've never used the 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy but that too may go on my list of things to order. Is this the 100 plus or...?

Another alternative would be to drill a hole on opposite sides of the fracture, clean the solder mask and install a jumper on the component side of the board, but that may not work for all of the broken traces. I like the idea of reinforcing the fracture with another piece of printed circuit board.

Comes in liquid or putty and some good to 500 degrees

Put it near somewhere warm Lee. The epoxy will cure better that way.

Yes Sir, I even read the directions....TWICE!! Easy to be confused on it though. We mix a lot of Belzona at work too Joe, and depending on what series of Belzona you are using it has some weird portions too.

Hi Lee,
It looks to me like you are doing just about what I would do. That area is a special stress area being the card slides in a connector. That is why it is more of a concern. I have JB Weld here that was bought as much cheaper amount. So far it has worked well for me on plastic.
We were authorized repair of the Accuphase at Teac but I never saw the big attraction to the stuff and always thought a SAE, Crown or Carver amp was a better idea. We had a lot of large caps go bad in their amps. They were the size of beer cans.

It's pretty tedious scraping the traces of solder and sealer. But I've got that done. Shaking too much tonight to solder wires accross those small traces....perhaps tomorrow night.

That wouldn't help much. I drank a lot of coffee at noon which I don't usually do. A couple cups in the morning is usually it...

The reinforcement with the PCB material REALLY stiffened this card up...

Traces were soldered back up and the board is headed back to Johan....
