While I had these speakers apart and the drivers in the capable hands of Upland speaker repair I thought I'd go ahead and recap the crossover networks.

I did a lot of reading on cap options and settled on the Sonicap Gen I's for the main caps and the Sonicap Gen II's for bypass duty

Original caps:

Recapped:

Another fun project. I am on the edge of my seat waiting for the drivers to get back from Ken. Can hardly wait to hear these 240Ti's sing.

Definitely a hijacked account but it's the real McCoy :bigsmurf:

Larry, I used the same large caps in my Klipsch Chorus II's recently and just as you said, noticed a difference right away. I felt like I finally "heard" the Chorus II's for the first time. That is why I chose them for this project.

Lee, That is a great question. I guess I should email for the recomend to the guys at Sonicaps. The woofers will have fresh surrounds, spiders and dust caps and the tweets will have new foam "plugs". All done by a respected JBL guy. Needless to say I'm a bit excited for the drivers to make it back so I can have a listen to these speakers.

BTW, I missed my avie as well ;)

Stuw...... :flower: .... :joker: ... :thumbright: ...nuff

Well..Here's an update to this thread.

I got the speakers back from Upland Speaker repair and ordered a few Mills resistors for the critical places in the signal path and hot glued everything down. I also bypassed the attenuation switches.

Here are a few pics of one crossover in it's finished state

I got the speakers back together on Tuesday evening and ran the burn in CD until Friday evening. Just a bit ago I decided it was time for some music and guess what I reached for.......

Yo got it! Shpongle ~ The God Particle

Now I'm running at under Mach one as the wifey and lil'one's in the house but the first thing wifey say's when "Before The Big Bang" starts is "You can't play that music that sounds like bombs are going off cranked up. The neighbors will call the cops and say bombs are going off" . To which I reply "That would be really cool as I'd know it's just right" ;)

Anyway... as I was listening to the song The God Particle I noticed, at less than Mach One, it had already become much more of an "experience" to me. More like I was in it and part of it. I'm excited to get the house empty and go for Mach 3-5 and beyond

BTW, the speakers aren't even set up just kinda "placed" for the initial burn in. Guy's, I think this is gonna get really good... :D

God Particle is a good audition disc, no doubt. The JBL's get loud??

With no effort at all. Very interesting though as you could tell it was very loud but it did not bother my ears at all or fatigue them. I had my feet up on the ottoman and my pant legs were blowing in the breeze. I'm not sure I even reached 50% of the volume control.

Wonder how a W.O.A.'d 700 would do as these speakers like power. I'm only sending 250 at them now but they would not mind seein' 500wpc.
