I'll talk to Danny. I have had dealings with Hawthorne. It has been awhile. I was looking for the x-oxer and wiring. I have to talk to Danny about some x-overs. So I will ask him.

He tested a pair of them. I don't remember what model. He said using their X-over they were all over the place. He said they sounded a little rough. I'm going to call him tomorrow after it gets to hot to work on the pump. So we will talk more about them.

Interesting, was the crossover specs all over the place or the sound they made? And if it was the specs did he elaborate? I'm just really curious about that design. Cool that you know all these great people (like me  ).

I'd love to hear what Danny has to say, as well. I have a pair of SL3's and all the parts of a pair of reQuest's....a project I never completed. I need to revisit it sometime. I have the panels, the crossovers and the crap woofers (which I was going to replace with something a lot better, and in a big ported box...I just ordered some stuff from Danny not long ago.

If you're looking at ribbons, have you seen the comparisons made at Zaph Audio? He ran a bunch of them through their paces, and came the the conclusion that one was better than all the others ones...

Bohlender Graebener Neo3 PDR is the clear winner among ribbon and planar tweeter drivers.....excluding big panel electrostatics......he tested Aurum Cantus G3Si , LCY 130 , Fountek NeoCD2.0, Silver Flute YAG20-1, Vifa D26NC55 and the BG. The BG was his choice....

Check it out at www.zaphaudio.com Cool site for DIY speaker builders....

Phoenix was missing another speaker guy, welcome again Sutton. You seem to have had exposure to a lot of things a lot of folks here have not.

I have worked with the YAG's in my Linus Array project (and some of the origianl non-Chinese ribbons) and the Foundek, but have no experience with the Neo 3. BG did make a long planar, in many different lengths, so if you are doing an array, or just want a lower crossover point, or more power handling, you might look at the other larger models too.

Just a thought...

It is almost impossible to cummunicate with him now as he is obviously bombarded with questions and requests from idiots like me, but I have built several of his designs and they are simply in a class by themselves. He understands what a good speaker should sound like, and man do they ever sing. He is a believer in the "less is more" philosophy for crossovers as well, so if it isn't absolutely needed, it's not in the design. I'm not sure he has done anything with monster speakers though....mostly bookshelf type stuff, but he thourouly tests the crap out of drivers and can tell you what the good- the bad- and the downright crap is...plus he does some stuf with MCM and Parts Express stuff, not just the high dollar speakers, which I appreciate..
