I'm the Red Knight, by grant of the Black
Well, I went to this garage sale thru CL, and just like in the photos, it had gobs of audio gear. I picked up a Heil tweeter, and what I'm calling a Sumo Short Stack (no power amp). Here's a list with comments - perhaps someone has an interest in some or all of it:

1.
ESS Heil Air Motion Transformer - not tested yet, but the diaphragm appears to be in good shape. SOLD

2. Sumo Diana preamp - a two-chassis preamp (preamp + outboard power supply). It appears to be fully functional, but have yet only checked it on CD and tuner inputs, and outputs. It does not have the "module" whatever that was. The gain/balance pots are dirty - they are Nobel units, and I'm unsure how to clean them. Inputs are RCA. Outputs are RCA and balanced, but I could not test the balanced outputs, lacking a power amp with balanced inputs. SOLD

3. Sumo Aurora tuner - not quite dead, as one light lights up. No output. As they say on eBay, for parts and repair only. SOLD

4. Sumo Charlie tuner - power, lights, and output are OK, but it needs a good cleaning. SOLD

5. Sumo Axiom transport + Theorem DAC - I replaced the stretched drawer belt, cleaned the pulleys, and cleaned the laser lens. The display indicates it tracks the CD, but I could find no output via coax outs, optical outs, or balanced outs. For the DAC, I connected the optical output of a CDP I knew was working to the DAC, and the DAC to a good amp. There was no output. So - two more "for parts and/or repair only." SOLD

All the Sumo gear is in black finish, all are rack-mountable. None have headphone jacks. All are a bit grimy and somewhere between pristine and beat-up - I suppose that would be average used condition. There are no really big dings, no manuals, no boxes. If you're interested, I can send photos - innards too. Questions? Just ask...

The tunas sound good to me...holler back?

Steven, I had a suspicion you'd be the first to reply. Say what you will, you will never have the Proton. I will send you the Aurora later, but are you sure? I think it's a junker - do you want photos? As for the Charlie, sorry, I'm going to try to clean it up before I part with it. If I get it working right, I'm going to want much more than a pittance for it.

It should be reassuring to you to note that I don't really want a Proton (they are nice enough), but Mr. Bongiorno's fine things are welcome here.

And it's understood about your prized tuna... :)

No pictures are needed I looked it up and even found one manual.

Do call me?

Of course, the prized "tuna" is the Proton, and don't forget the all-important antenna. Sorry, but I'm not a Charlie fanboy. Well, there's not much more to say, as you must already know more about the Aurora than I do. I'll try to call tomorrow...

OK, photos of the Diana preamp. The faceplate is somewhat grimy, has a few light scratches, but no real dings, and the volume part of the volume/balance knob has the black worn off, or it came from a Diana of another color. The module this pre lacks is for an optical input, I discovered. Note the rack-mount brackets, but I'm not positive they're factory. There are no feet or provision for them, so if not rack mounting, you'll have to use stick-on feet.

Here's the second set of photos. All are of the preamp itself, until the frontal photo of the power-supply unit - after that, the photos are of the PSU.

Laz, can you get that call in before I ditch this dump and ride my bike a while?

News! (Gnus?)

I have a subwoofer project going on, and I decided to move the crossovers outboard. I was eyeing the Sumo Axiom for a chassis. It's dead, right? Well, a little voice told me to try it one last time, so I hooked it up to the Key Digital DAC in the shop system and put a CD on the tray, all the while thinking, "It's do or die, Axiom!" Music! All the buttons and controls work. Next, I'll just give the Sumo DAC a last try...

That's the end of that - the last of the Sumo gear went bye-bye at Twangfest.
