My wife asked me yesterday "what vinyl are you hunting right now?"
I had actually been thinking that I have a gap in my collection in that I don't have a single Jimi Hendrix album... If I had to pick just one, which should I get (or at least start with)?
I don't have one either jaetee, can't say as I miss it though. Granted as great a natural born guitar player he was, and somewhat handicapped in playing a right handed guitar, but ya wouldn't know it.The guy was good but not in my top 5.
Not a HUGE Hendrix fan either but I will say that the newly released one,People, Hell and Angels, is rather good - it's just not your "father's Hendrix".
If traditional Hendrix is more your thing, you can't go wrong with Electric Ladylandor Smash Hits. I like Hendrix and think he is good at what he does
but he's not what I would call a prolific guitarist..
If I had to go with absolutely ONE Hendrix album it would be Smash Hits.
Great Yes,,,The best not even close,,,,we had this discussion a while back and he never even cracked the top 10 list,,,,Electric lady land is a good listen
If Jimi was still with us it's hard to imagine what his music would be like now. He was with us for such a short time but he made a huge impact in those few short years - what would his guitar sound like today? His music and guitar playing was ahead of its time - but that is my opinion.
All Along the Watchtower is my all time favorite - anyone that had not heard the PL 400 several decades ago was always treated to this song for their first listen. What Hendrix album would I choose if I could only have one? All of the previous suggestions are tops on my list but I'd add his second album to the list "Axis Bold as Love".
Thanks for the suggestions. Smash Hits sounds like a good J.H. sampler that may lead to more...
Reminds me of the Steel Pulse album with the same name, so that's a good start.
I'm interested in some Hendrix not because I think he's the greatest guitarist of all time, but more along the lines of what Nav pointed out... Music was way ahead of its time, and he was not around very long and made a huge impact. I think he should be represented in my collection out of sheer repsect and to satisfy my growing, deeper curiosity.
My wife wouldn't bother to ask if there was not an underlying reason for an upcoming gift (even though my B-day is not until November?) so I will mention the various responses and see what happens.
