If I am going to ACTIVE Crossover, does an Equalizer go before the Active Crossover or after the Crossover?
I am going to try going ACTIVE. I've always used Passive Crossovers prior to this.(the ones with capacitors, insuctors, resistors, etc.), so I have purchased an old used Ashly SC-22 Active Crossover and want to give it a whirl.
I know the speakers are going to need more than just a crossover point and slope. Each driver really needs to be tailored to get a flat frequency response, so that is why I'm thinking of putting a Soundcraftman Equalizer in the circuit as well. But would you put it before or after the Active Crossover?
I think if you put it after the crossover you might need two EQ's and if you put it before, you would only need one, but I just don't know. I'm sure some of you have run a Pro sound setup with racks full of compressors, limiters, crossovers, EQ's, and all sorts of goodies...and you can tell me..how do you typically do this? I can see positives and negatives to each approach.....and right now that explains why I have beena passive crossover person. I may become a convert after this, but I don't know. I know I probably bought an old unit that is not nearly as feature rich as some of the newer ones, but I wanted to see if I liked the sound before I went all out..
How would you approach this?
