I LOL'd Life as Northwinds see's it

Enjoy the ride!

Was out in the garage puttering around and I was going through this open box of misc crap and came across one of the many cd's of music files I burnt off an old computer from the late 90s when I lived in Fairport and Rochester (Gates), NY. All Napster stuff  and all the highest bitrate that was downloadable. Back then, I had access to a T3 connection and could download a song in a couple seconds LOL. Anyway, it looks like it was stomped on and dragged around by a toddler, I mean BEAT looking. I just did a quick breath and polish with a softcloth out in the garage and it plays absolutely fine so far. I have seen cd's with the tiniest of marks that skip and this looks WAY worse. Bunch of Metal, wish I had a tracklist because most of this stuff I don't even remember or have a clue who did what LOL. Found an old Moriah cd that a band member burnt for me of their original recording also. It's amazing that a burnt cd can take 15+ years of neglect and abuse and still play.BTW, I took the trouble to burn these as .wav files also which is a plus since I can run them in my dbx player instead of jumping from a computer or plugging one of the laptops into the preamp

LMAO!!!!!! Jenny Jenny (867-5309) just started playing LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

Bwahahahhahahahahaaaa!!! Now Redneck Mother from Jerry Jeff Walker's Viva Terlingua album is playing. Love me some Jerry Jeff!!

EDIT: Now his track "Wheel" from the same album is playing

I have a feeling these discs (I know where a bunch more are) may end up as "mix" disc's I could make copies of. Would be cool mystery cd's for members here. NO tracklist just sit back and have an open mind LMAO

EDIT #2 now London Homesick Blues is on from the same album, I wanna go home with the armadillo... LOL

EDIT #3 Hendrix!!! Are You Experienced?

What a strange mix for one CD!!!

Yep!!!!

Now it's some demo of a song written to and inspired by Hendrix and SRV!!!! Sounds almost like Satriani or Vai but none of the gimmick playing is involved

Journey - Dixie Highway just came on from the Captured Live album. Damn this brings me back to my teen years. I STILL love that album to death, back when Journey was at the pinnacle of their career. I STILL have the copy I bought as a teen still in shrink 1st press w/ the hype sticker and insert!

I think this may be my personal thread of foolishness and fun I come across, maybe even some insights too

Eric Johnson did a few of those IIRC.

You know what, he crossed my mind but you know how he has that wierd processed sound? It was missing from this. Not sure if you have seen Vai live but he sits and plays a doubleneck and loops a rhythym and then plays the solo to if on the same guitar. It sounded very much like that

Now another Hendrix tune not played by Hendrix (Voodoo Child), I think it's from the same demo deal, no vocals. Man, dude is RIPPING it up, it has to be Vai but damnit, it sounds tonally like Satriani

Johnson does that same thing - the rhythm loop thing. Killer effect when done right!
He does processing a lot too but the songs I was thinking about were not the typical 'Eric' cuts.

I've seen Vai live and know exactly what you're talking about.
I've actually been lucky enough to see a few G3 shows. Vai live is a trip!
As a mater of fact, I saw a G3 show with him and Satriani & Malmsteen in Denver some years back and Vai had that triple-neck mind blowing guitar.
'I Know You're Here' - from that show:

My buddy and I have looked for our faces in the crowd during this concert video but without luck. We were about 10, 12 rows back - on the floor.
It was a one-night show so we know we are in there somewhere.

I have to go back to the first demo track because there was some reference to a website with a test tone for more demos, might very well be Johnson then. You'd swear it was SRV playing the rhythm

I have that G3 show on DVD. Fantastic show! I remember the first one with Eric Johnson, he looked lost on the stage. Just stood there and played with no emotion but plenty of processed sound. I love his A Via Musicom album, tough to find on vinyl indeed!

Just checked that track again, it mentioned sampleaccurate.com man that MUST be old

Eric always looks awkward on stage. Back in the 90's it seemed the smaller the venue, the more relaxed he came across. Great memories of his solo shows and of that 1st G3 round too.

'Musicom' and 'Tones' mix together nicely on tape. And one that went under the radar that is an awesome blend of live and studio stuff is "Alien Love Child - Live and Beyond'.
The more recent 'Bloom' is like Johnson of way back. Should whip you up a mix tape of his stuff sometime soon...

I actually have that Alien Love Child on cd somewhere!!! Have not heard Bloom and very little of Tones. Would love to hear some of it indeed!

I also have a uber rare Lords of Archive Records from Germany CD of his show on February 23, 1990 in Austin, TX. Its a handnumbered 68 of 1250 and marked in red as a First Pressing. I got it back when I lived in Rochester from the Record Archive on Mt Hope and paid like $25 for it!!! You might dig this bro, want me to try to make you a copy? It's noted that this disc is Lord of Archive's second production and is a direct soundboard "the performance proves to be quite inquisitive"

I just googled it and there is two copies on Amazon used for $75

I have the Austin City Limits show that sort of launched his solo career but I've not heard any live recordings from 1990. We'll need to do some exchanges for sure. :glasses8:

Typical soundboard. With a little help from an eq and a dynamic processor, you'd be surprised how good it can sound. Remember, soundboard recordings usually are usually flat as a pancake
