Hello! Audiophile-in-training needing guidance.

Hello people!

I'm quite new to the audiophile world, which was sparked by being recently given a Marantz 2270.... Aaaaaaaand now I'm hooked...

Today, I first discovered Phase Linear, and all the rave reviews about it! It seems that anything touched by Bob Carver is coveted. A local seller (WA state) on Offer up is selling a PL400 (series one, 4-fin), but was advised to hold out for an 8-fin version.

Anyway, I'm here looking for advice, good deals, and a place to begin building an awesome system.

A 4 fin is still workable, just takes a fan on their heatsinks if you are humpin the poor little bugger..

The 2270 is a classic, and a fine example of the species....

Any advice on a Phase Linear DRS-400 and P-3600 preamp?

Found the combo for $300.

The only literature I found is a little confusing:

"The DRS 400 was a power amplifier but did not carry on the tradition of naming the amplifier after its total RMS rating. It had two rail power supplies; low rail was 50 watts and high rail was 200 watts. It's power bandwidth was 10-80kHtz."

...so, is it 50w, or 200w...or somehow both?

Both. The P-3600 is actually a pretty good pre-amp.

Yeah... got it... DRS = Dynamic Range Series.

Excellent specimen to WOPL. Beautiful but non-functional. If I were adding amps I'd go for it. I'm not.
