Haven't listened to mine in awhile. The Shanling has a tubed headphone amp so I'm burning tubes. I think mine are Grado 80s. I know why I don't listen to head phones. Oh well what can you do at 5AM?

Buddy, thank you so much for selling me your old AKG 601's just an awesome pair of headphones, your sweat on the ear cups notwithstanding.... my first love was the mighty AKG K340 eletrostat/dynamic cans... http://www.head-fi.org/products/akg-k34 ... es/reviews , living in an apt now makes headphone use a given late nights, unless I'm in a F U mood hehehe  , I can't tell ya hoe many nights I've fallen asleep with the AKG's on, very nice reproducers!!! Wish I could aford another pair of K-340's, usually about $500 nowdays...

A pic of the 601's with the Buick Y-Job as a stand on the Denon DN-790R cassette deck/Sanyo amp (cool meter lights from Jer :thumbright: )

And the Creek headphone amp, remember that ??

I have two sets of Stax and haven't listened to them in years. I did crank up some loud tunes Friday night though. :thumbleft:

I've never heard Stax, Jim. I would reckon they cost a bit of coin used.

If one happened to be surplus though it would be interesting to know how much Christmas Club to do or something.

A few years ago you could still get some good buys on them on ebay, now like so many things people caught on and the price went stupid. Like my first Fairchild, it was new old stock and I only gave a little over $100.

Here is some information on Stax.

I find the Sennacherib to be very comfortable but I haven't tried em out in years. That's Sennheiser, but I thought the word was funny as this is what spell check came up with lol.

I tried Grado's, loved the sound but not that comfortable. I also tried some HUGE AKG headphones and found the fit unappealing. Even with the comfort doughnuts. I'm in the market for a set of cans but it's low priority. I have my own small room downstairs away from the upstairs bedrooms, and I listen to mostly quiet music, quietly.
