Grrrrr... shitty packing job from Japan

Saved up to buy a factory new Technics 1200mk2 dustcover sent from Japan for my TT. I can't believe it was sent in a thin box with only a foam bag, there was literally no clearance for protection. Shipping it back would have been almost double what I paid for it

I was so stoked when it got here, already had the hinges off the scuffy 1200 cover I have and immediately was bummed

So now I have a crystal clear dustcover with a cracked edge, worse is that it is in the front. eBay seller did refund me and told me to keep it. Now what? Can this be fixed short of a hack job gluing? There is 3 broken pieces that I see but I do not have a plastic welder

What do the hinges look like? Get some packing tape and make some attempt to put it back together to show us.

Steve, hinges did not come with it, I have the original ones. I just put my scuffy cover back on, at least no cracks LOL

You could always try some nu-finish on the scuffed cover if you havent already. It may clean up some of the smaller scratches. I use goo gone to take away the hazy look on plastic as well.

Get me the dimensions and hinge width/spacing...I may have a Technics/Panasonic dust cover you can use.

Thanks Ben, maybe it's something I will look into. My cover is not bad but it is hazy in places, you can see it in below image. No deep scratches though. I have been working on this TT since I got it, it's already a good looker. It now has a new spindle bearing, new platter. I completely disassembled it and the tonearm and made sure everything works perfectly. This thing never wavers in pitch and the Benz Micro Glider M2 on it is a great match. Maybe after Xmas I will get another cover only this time order it from Kevin at KAB. I have a set of Kimber cables I will replace the original cables with but that's not even really an issue. I also want to get fancy silver tonearm wires someday. I think I can handle that even with my crappy old eyes

I appreciate the offer Steve but my old one will be fine until I can get another. Any 1200 series cover will work, I think hinge spacing is different for non-1200 models anyway and I am not going to move the mounts. Like I said, my 1200 was never beaten on by a record scratcher and I want it to remain looking stock. Relocating the hinge mounts would mean new holes drilled

I hopefully have a unused boxed NOS Syntec S-220 broadcast tonearm and a new in box Shure vn 45mr coming also for it that I am trading for soon. The tonearm looks like this. I read these came were used with the SP10 and SP15. My buddy Kelly got a pile of this stuff for free at the station he works at including an immaculate SP15 which he loves

That is a shame that your TT cover got cracked, and it couldn't be in a worse place. I have repaired some by cutting out the damaged
area and gluing in a new piece but will never look as original. You could just glue in the broken piece.
The cover I made for your buddy Kelly's SP15 made it safely. Thank goodness. Fedex so far hasn't busted any of the acrylic pieces
I have shipped, but I pack them well.

I need a few more headshells and somehow the clamp on the tonearm rest managed to snap off on me, which won't be as bad when a cart and shell is on but it also won't stay put until I can fix that.

Steve, I will take a look at my head shell box. Might be able to help you with the tone arm clamp also, have to look through my parts boxes. Shoot a picture of it if you can so I can see what it looks like, been a long time and I can't find the original images I had

The Novus Plastic Polish Trio worked for me. It was recommended on this forum a year or two ago and I used it on my SL-1310 dust cover to get rid of some scratches and other annoying areas. I used the most abrasive of the three to get rid of a scratch or two and proceeded from there. It turned out quite well. For under twenty bux (two ounce bottles) and some elbow grease this should take care of the hazing.

I see that stuff Dennis, I would not mind giving it a try, beat course then various grades of wetsanding then the buffing wheel with a few compounds

Actually, they are stupid expensive. That's what body shops use to fix the cracked faux plastic bumpers and body panels
