Two nights ago she put it in hibernate mode and now it won't come out of it. We have tried turning it on and off and when trying to restart it you hear a small whir and then nothing... what gives???

Try removing the battery, leave plugged up, then turn on.

If not above, hold power button until it turns off.. turn on.

If it is a desktop unplug it from the wall for a few minutes then plug it back in and pus hthe start button again. See what happens when you do that? If it is a laptop take the battery out for a few minutes, then resinstall batt and push the start button.

Damn he beat me to it.

Fairly common that laptops don't like to come out of hibernation or just that peeps don't give them enough time to come out of hibernation.

We have done that and when we plug it back in it goes "whir" for a second, then stops and the little blue loght starts to blink again and proceeds to ignore us again....and if we hold the "on" button down it just keeps blinking....

it is running on aux power when in hibernate. Perhaps power supply crapped out and main rails won't come on.

Hold a key down on the keyboard or tap the enter key a few times while booting. Or just tap the F8 key while booting should bring you to a boot menu of course only if the computer and or HD are working correctly.

Depending upon the model of HP Pavilion and power supply I have a few extra here that you could have. although you should be able to put in any old atx power supply. Probably a 250 watt or so.

Ok, let me know if you need one or two as I was contemplating tossing them as I upgraded two late model HP ccomputers to psu with much more robust wattage outputs.

Jani got her CPU unhooked and on the "project table" of hers. Exposed the innards and gave it a good cleaning and left the inside exposed. I came home from work, grabbed my DMM, and an IEC cord , walked up, plugged it and and commanded----
" COMPUTER,HEAL THYSELF"
and then turned it on.....and off....and on.....and off.....it is now back in Jani's office and doing payroll as we speak....

I thought I was the only one around with magic hands. I hope that's all it took to keep it running, Lee. It's always a love/hate relationship with a computer - that's why computers are given female names.
