Got up early and finished the belt replacement on Barb's old Pioneer CT-F600 cassette deck. She had it when we met almost six years ago, and it sat in the basement of the house I grew up in, in Gladstone, while we lived up here, while we lived in New Mexico, and for the almost-a-year we've lived here since moving back. I took it home with some other junk the other day, popped the hood, and had a look. The main belt lay in a tarry mass, and the FF/RW belt was stretched, but I was able to find replacements for both in my Box 'O Belts. It's playing Bach as I type this, and sounds good.

Cassette deck belt replacement with your morning coffee sounds OK to me, Laz. With those older Pioneer CT-F series decks, belt replacement is sometimes the only maintenance needed if the heads are good. And lots of room to work in there, too.

Enough room to work, but the flat capstan belt had to be coaxed past a narrow space behind the flywheel. BTW, the hub end of a spare bicycle spoke makes a great tool for belt manipulation. The blue electronic meters are working great, and Barb is pleased. The most difficult part was actually cleaning up the tarry residue of the old belt.

Um, back to the OP, as I recall this was about some tapedeck DIY. I've been using the deck off and on for some days now, and I notice this "clickclick clickclick clickclick..." from the speakers between tracks of recorded cassettes. What is it? Did I fail to do something??

Right, I hear it between tracks, and it's on the speakers, not emanating from the deck itself. I suppose I should pop the bonnet and watch as it plays...
