This one is no stranger to the Casa-de-laatsch. It was Larrt's and before that mine. I must say ,,, IF ANYBODY BUYS ANYTHING FROM DOUG HERE, BE PREPARED TO BE SHOCKED!!!! I HAVE NEVER, EVER SEEN ANYTHING PACKED SO WELL, EXCEPT FOR ED BLACKWOOD!!!!!

I'll have pics later. Dougs complaint, no on/off muting. In this design, a solid state relay consisting of 2-MPSA16's and 1-2N5086 and associated caps and resistors cause a ten second delay at turn on before switching outputs closed. On power down, outputs are immediately shunted to ground. Should be a 2 hour project Yep, he really did say that out loud.

Are you saying that Ed is well packed? :laughing1:

Does this mean that you're installing an aftermarket board in the 3300 II? You must elaborate as you've captured my curious side.

Na Nav, Ed packs well but is not well packed. I have fixed this bugger though. After exhaustive study of data sheets , I came up with some subs for the MPSA 16's and the 2N5086. I went with 2N5087 for the '86 and 2N5088's for the MPSA 16's Replaced all resistors, slightly out of spec, left the caps alone, they were great. Replaced 2-4.7K res, 2-100K res, and that was it.

Dpoug there is no more noise at turnoff and no more snap, crackle , pop at turn-on. there is 2 seconds of silence at turn-on, then a very attenuated signal for 3 seconds, then ramps up to full output.

And Doug, you know you are violating the first tenet of separates, Pre-amp on first, amp on last. Amp off first, pre-amp off last...

I see some putty hairs in there. I almost said something else but restrained myself for once.

Why?? An unrestrained Nav is much funnier. Yep, everything gets vacuumed for putty hairs.

The test setup is totally separate from the rack. Got Ken's Lickety Split, Doug's Diane Pre, an Onix CD-1 and straight to the horns. The 3300 is as close to the Spec 1 than anything else I've had in here. The pre section from a Kenwood KA 4002 had a spooky good phono section i had once. Maybe have to put Larrt's SP-12 right up there too. Catching some mellow " Phase III" this am.....

It's all off the same receptacle and I wasn't using the power switch on the WOPL as I heard that they weren't up to it. Is it ok to use the power switch for turning them on and off?

They've been doing it for 40 years. Once in awhile they'll take a dump, I have a few new ones though...
