I have a Emu 0404 soundcard in my tower. When I went to fire up the mucis this morning I have no sound from the right channel.

I did the standard cable tests to make sure it was not an issue with them. I looked and see signal coming in at the mixer but I have no sound out of the right channel.

Any ideas?

Check the balance setting or especially the app using the card, reset if needed,

Are you using a 1/8" stereo jack?

Are you in a mode that uses that jack for just one channel?

Is the plug broken or perhaps the jack damaged?

Still no sound from the right side today! This is pissing me off. there is zero reason this should be happening and I can not afford a soundcard right now.

Cables are all connected correctly. I have continuity at the rca-1/4" cable. The The connector at the pc(dong?) has continuity from the pins that plug into the card to the female 1/4 outs. All settings appear to be correct on the pc.

I'm lost here as it was working fine the day before yesterday morning.

Well.. hmm.. do you have a 'scope (and feel adventurous)? If you're lucky, it could be the output amp on the card. If you can get to it while in the PC, trace the line out on the right back to the output IC - usually pin 1 or 7. Then if it's pin1, check for signal on pin 3 or 2 (depends on if it's being inverted or not, usually pin 3). If it's pin 7, check pin 5 (preferred) or 6.

If you have signal on the input but none on the output, it could be the IC or could be a cap in the output circuit. I'm talking half out my butt, but would be able to tell better if I had a diagram or pic.

My scope is in the storage shed somewhere so unfortunately this will not be an option for me.

Hi Rex,
Yes it is sure aggravating when these things go down when you least expect it.
I would try to reseat the card in the motherboard connector. Depending on where this was made there might be surface mount components on it to add to the problem and there also can be multilayered PCB as well with vias.
I don't have one of these cards but at several stations where Antec cards were used and this same thing happened- I had to open the Mixer not of windows but of the application for that card and then assign channels and volume levels and the audio would come back.
I have on occasion gone into device manager and removed hardware only to have Windows find it again and reinstall it and that fixed the problem with that equipment. Just some things to try. I have some cheap audio cards that are PCI that I keep on hand for clients that I work on their computers. You could upgrade to a Echo MIA if you can still find them they have balanced connectors. They are more professional.
