Larry's recent buys had me sniffing around, and lookie what I found...a single Celestion DL6 series II to match my orphan one. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ele/2570795857.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , $35 that I don't have at the moment, I haven't contacted the seller to see if they're willing to ship it to Tucson, it couldn't be more than $20 to ship tho. These are fantastic speakers, 2-way British with the famous titanium dome tweeter.

I blew the woofer in one of mine years ago, and not knowing at the time you could re-foam them I stupidly pitched it in the trash

I'm willing to trade a nice TDK 10.5" metal reel full of tape for a donation to cover the cost of getting this speaker, anyone willing? Thanks in advance... a pic of the lonely Celestion in the 'puter room...

Stuwee: I have a loner Celestion DL6, too. It is not a Series II, and it has the factory brown wood vinyl covering the sides. There is no grille. If the shipping isn't too expensive, and you want this speaker (after I supply some pictures) I would be willing to swap with you. For a bookshelf speaker, it's a very good one, and I can understand why you would want to find a match for yours. It has been connected to my Akai AA-940 receiver downstairs for the past five years.

You know that sounds like a much better plan, I doubt I'd hear a diff in the SQ from the series II, and I don't care about the grill cloth or the brown clashing with my black one, it's that 'sound' that I love.

I got my tape pics mixed up, the TDK's are GX's, the Maxell is unknown to me unless you can tell by the leader, the TDK's I have both style reel's the slot and the 3 hole shown below, which would you like?

Let me post pictures of the Celestion DL6. I'll see what's needed to ship it: packing, protection and cost to your address. If it looks like a go, I don't want you to send anything until you have had a chance to listen to it for a week, or so. Then, if you are happy with the speaker, you can mail me the TDK GX tape and slotted reel, at your leisure.

Stu, if your deal with Nando falls through, tell me how much and where and it'll be on the way.

I took these photos tonight:

It won't be until the end of the week before I pack it up, though. You've been waiting a few years - what's another couple of weeks.

You got that right! No rush Nando, I got your PM. Thanks, it's in great shape :thumbright:

They don't look like much, but I auditioned speakers costing a couple thousand back when these were built in several diff stores in Manhattan, and thought these had the best of everything but the lower 2 octaves of bass, amazing detail and soundstage from these puppies. The sales guy said you have a good ear young man, I have a pair in my den and my wife told me you trade in those speakers and I'm gonna leave you

I'll make them do double duty, in the computer room for the most part, and take them into my 'love lounge' for when I don't want to listen to headphones (I don't have speakers in there). Then I can attack the AR 4x's tweeter problem, that should keep me very busy, I'll post the AK thread on that nasty procedure. talk about a biatch

I didn't know what to expect when I first bought this speaker. I bought it here in Squamish, and it sat for the longest time in a local thrift store without any interest. I would like to audition a pair of Celestion DL8s, because these 6s are giant killers. I'm glad there's at least one other person, in the audio forums I belong to, who knows the value of the DL6.

There really isn't much difference between them, when I got upgradeitis, I brought mine back to the shop to compare with the big Ditton series, they looked kind of like the ones in the pic below, but they were just the Woofer and the passive radiator an that wonderful tweeter, and I couldn't justify the additional $1,500 they wanted for them, those little DL6's are really giant killers. The big Dittons could handle more power and had more bass but they lost some of the magic their little brother had, you know what I mean? But if you find a pair of 8's I bet you'll love'm :D

There's something to be said about British engineered speakers. I haven't put these to the test, yet, but I'm sure these Leak Sandwhich speakers will be another good 2-way speaker:

Those Leak's are just too cool, where'd you find those in such great shape? They're from the early 60's, 15ohms, made for use with a nice tube amp. That woofer is a sandwich of foam and aluminum, very stiff and rigid, the tweeter is a mini version of the woofer and is intigrated into the speaker grill. What is that plug thingie?

It's quite elementary, my dear Watson. I am holding the female end of the speaker plug. Just like some of the older Akais, and Pioneers, which had a special speaker plug that fit into the receiver speaker outputs, the speaker output wiring from the amp is connected to the two prong plug with hidden terminal screws in the barrel of the plug. And the plug is polarized as you see the red dot on the speaker is the small male pin and the larger pin is for the negative lead.

And here are the other components I've been saving for this 1960's starter system:

I'm trying to find a vintage Dual Turntable to go with the Heathkit AA-32 tube amplifier and Dual TD28 tabletop open reel deck. All bought (including Leak speakers) at my local mini flea market for less than $100.

I am sooooo totally jealous of that system Nando :glasses7: :happy3: :happy3: :glasses7: :notworthy:
I haven't even powered the 60's starter system up, yet, so don't be jealous, stuwee. I'm so slow when it comes to giving some of my gear the acid test in a sound demo. I have a Nakamichi 600 wedge amplifier, I've never fired up since buying it for $20. I, even, have never opened wood cases for the Nakamichi 600 series components. I sold two cases and have three left.

the Brits get hammered on a lot of fronts (cars especially) but I totally agree, the British do speakers right. I've been treated good by KEF and B&W all my adult life.
