Ever had a deck that played tapes too fast? I was just firing up my ctf-9191, and it's way off. The old recording sounds funny, really fast sounding. I just tried making a new recording and the speed seems fine. So I'm guessing the speed change is affecting both play and record so I'm not noticing it on the test recording I'm working with now. I suppose when I hook up the Nak, I'll know for sure.

Yep, an it would drive me nuts evertime I would use it.... It was a Sony, dubbing deck, so I gave it away to a tone deaf person that couldn't hear the difference.

You should be able to adjust the speed via a small pot in the motor or a wiper pot on the motor control board.. If you need to do the former it is usually a good idea to use an insulated screwdriver as most of the motors have some circuitry very close to the adjustment.

Thanks for the advice. I could make a tape on the Nak, use the PC to generate the tone. How do you compare? A dual-trace 'scope?

I would have to speculate that if it's too FAST, and also too LOUD...

You have developed an immunity to the 1980s.

Yes, a scope would work..... Awhile back I posted how I did it using a scope on one of my reel recorders. If you have a digital scope most will also display frequency which makes it very easy to check.

Someone had told me that the motor might be going if it's speeding up.There have been no issues at all until I posted this thread.

You may try Deoxing it before you adjust the speed. I have a program somewhere. That I can do it with a USB sound card. Still needed a tape to set it though. I'll look for my tape. I'll send it to you with a beat up S/C. The program is free. I just can't remember the name. Jerry and Lee has it.

Larry

PS The program is called Daqarta I think.
