OK, so my DBX 118 has killed itself.
Wot I'm now desperate for is a replacement VCA board.
The unit has one for each channel, and my left ch is now dead.

I've swapped the boards over, and it's definitely THAT board.

So if anyone has a 118 that they're parting out, and has a known working VCA board that they can sell, AND ship to Australia, I would be so grateful.

BD

ps: if anyone has the schematics for the 118, or a DBX 100 Sub Harmonic Synthesiser, please PM me.
….. and yes, I've spent three lifetimes scouring the 'net, and they are the only two I can't find, yet need the most. My 100 has died too, but the problem with that one is on the main board, somewhere around the rectifier section, so a schematic right now would be most helpful.

Cheers…..

Thanx heaps D.
I did know about that one, but he's chasing an entirely different problem, and his schematic just doesn't match up with wot I have. Some of the IC's are different, and not even equivalents, so it has me beat.
My techie mate, Bean has it now, and even he agreed, so he's trying to figure out wot's going on, but progress is slow, as he's so busy with his own problems.
There's hope tho', but it just may be a lot quicker to just source a complete VCA card.
(… and would save Bean a helluva lot of time, that he could better spend getting my 100 working again.)

Actually D, it only just hit me that the schematics shown is incomplete and doesn't show the two VCA cards or the RMS detection card.
DUMB ME !!!!!!

Jeez D, I dunno wot that silver VCA (?) is. It doesn't look like anything I've seen inside my 118.

In the pic below, see the two cards to the right at the bottom of the pic? Well I want one of them. (complete)

Thanks BIG TIME for those schematics tho'. I think that's exactly wot I'm looking' fer. :)

Dennis,
I just opened up my 119, and IT has those VCA modules.
Wot a shame they're not interchangeable….
:(

BUT more importantly, if you come across a schematic for the DBX 100, that would be a real hoot.

That's the unit that's being worked on at the moment, and it's a major headache trying to figure out why it's operating voltage (post rectification) is only 5v.
I think it might be a faulty RCA CA723 Regulator.
