I had purchased these D9's a few years ago. I believe the previous owner (somewhat of a "speaker pimp" I know around here in Richmond VA lol) had replaced the surrounds, but alas.. after a few years under the brutal attack of various WOPL's, the surround was coming undone. Was time for an upgrade...
Found these guys on I think Amazon.. I'm willing to bet what they do is start with a decent woofer with specs as close to if not an exact match of the originals, then replace the surrounds and dustcaps with lookalikes with CV logos and whatnot. Nothing but good reviews so I figured I'd give it a shot. Sounds wonderful - bass is tighter, and definitely still very much "present" as you'd expect with D9's. You can see the difference with the replacements on the right.. "muchos heavier dutier"..
