The Muscle Shoals Movie is out on pay per view and is ina limited number of theaters around the country (home page here: http://www.magpictures.com/muscleshoals/) and I've seen Dave Whathisdrumstick's 2 hour documentary on Sound City in Los Angeles. Both good flicks with lots of rock n roll history.

Check 'em out!
Thanks for posting this. I have been looking for a new rockumentary.

Sound City has been showing on Axis Live - one of the semi-premium channels that isn't HBO or pay-per-view. Might be in the free movies in the pay-per-view section by this point, dunno.

Thanks, Bob; once it becomes available here, I will check out The Muscle Shoals Movie. I saw a documentary on the Eagles last month. That was very entertaining.

The Scorsese George Harrison documentary is a worthwhile watch. Recently received as a gift and was very well done. Scorsese's Last Waltz is one of my all time favorites. Neil Young and Bob Dylan give performances you have never seen in real life in that film.

"The Last Waltz" is also my favourite music movie. I have it on Blu-ray, along with the record set. Geri's ex-brother-in-law, Bill, was the road manager for The Band. In the movie, when Ronnie Hawkins first comes out on stage and exclaims, "Big time, Bill. Big time," that was directed to their road manager. Geri has a few stories to tell of The Band.

The Band was awesome. Many died too young in that group. Only Garth and Robbie still above ground.

I thought many performers in that video gave the performances of their lives...

Dr John
Joni Mitchell
Eric Clapton
Butterfield

Great watch, never get tired of it. Levon's Barn in Woodstock gave Midnight Ramble performances very reminiscent of that video.

Agreed. The Band was awesome. Cool story, Nando. I'll bet there's a bunch there.

I've yet to see the Muscle Shoals movie - a bunch of us from school who were going to go down there and tour the studios are going to get together to watch it as a stop-gap measure until they get 3614 Jackson Highway restored. Which begs the question of why, as Noel had it in pretty good shape when Pat and I toured it 5 years ago. It's where the Black Crows cut that Grammy-winning album of theirs a few years ago so it had to be in decent condition.

Anyway, there's a new non-profit down there that's supposed to be an umbrella for both the Fame and Muscle Shoals Sound studios to keep them from going under. I'm waiting for the tours to start in a couple of years.

The Sound City movie is Dave Grohl's two hour documentary that won some awards at Robert Redford's big festival in Idaho (?) last year, IIRC. I thought the first hour a lot better than the second.

I haven't been into a local professional recording studio for a very long time - try 1976 during our Electronics 11 class. We visited Mushroom Studios which, unfortunately, had closed its doors this past spring. Heart had just finished recording "Dream Boat Annie" in that studio. I still remember the absolute silence within the studio. You could hear your heart pound it was so eerily quiet.

So, it's always heartening to hear a studio that's still being immortalized or kept in business.
