As a critic of the the weak North American leadership , Canada included, this is just the start of a much bigger problem to come to Europe and we will just stand by and watch it happen.

The news is that the TRT state broadcasting station has been reclaimed, five soldiers were arrested.

It will probably be two or three more daze before we can really see what is going on, but the people have taken to the streets, more in fear od what happened in previous coups and the will to stop it than what might be safe...keeping the coup forces distracted should help weaken them.

The preliminary word is that the coup may be failing.

TRT has been recaptured, several coup soldiers have been captured, an F-16 shot down a helicopter that was strafing civilians but the president and several government officials were not hindered to effect control of the majority of the military that didn't revolt.

Turkey sorta sucks as it was politically but this really messes it up for everyone. It kind of neutralizes what they can do in the fight against ISIS and such. It sure had the Syrian folks all jolly.

The Turkish prime minister was turning the country to fundamental Islam, I want the coup to succeed....

I was telling my wife about this situation and that the US had a base in the south. she said that that State department was awfully quiet. we then said at the same time that there maybe be some collusion there. The thing is this is not a well organized uprising and may die quickly

Depends Joe, didn't seem all that well thought out, now they think it was a feint for the PM to seize more power by getting to purge the military with popular support now......a very cunning move.....if it's true. Gotta remember, those Muslims have been conniving for centuries....

Reports have around 200? soldiers in custody and Erdowan returned from his vacation at the airport like everything was under control, it's apparently over for the most part.

Think about it...we probably have something to gain here, if we let it proceed, it's kinda like we have a base there and we need them. It's an ugly stepsister thing.
